St. Thomas Aquinas

Limoges, circa 1600
Enamel
Musée Paul-Dupuy, Toulouse, France

The pen and the dove at the ear are common attributes in portraits of St. Thomas Aquinas. The monstrance in his left hand is less common. It refers to his hymns and theoretical writings on the doctrine of Transubstantiation. (The monstrance is used to display the Eucharistic Host.)
